A danger for Jack Doohan? Difficult to say with certainty, but there is indeed a risk. At the end of last year, a rumor was circulating claiming that Alpine wanted to secure the services of Franco Colapinto. But with both seats occupied, it’s difficult to appoint him as a full-time driver.

Despite this setback, the French team found a way to secure the services of the Argentine. This Thursday, January 9, he was hired as a test driver. At least for the moment. Although the future has not been discussed for someone who was in the Williams academy, Jack Doohan’s seat could be in jeopardy if his performances are not optimal.

We are very happy to have reached an agreement with Williams Racing to recruit Franco Colapinto. Franco is clearly one of the best young talents at the moment in motorsport. It’s fair to say that his arrival on the grid took more than one person by surprise last year, myself included, and his performances were very impressive for a rookie, highlighted Flavio Briatore, executive advisor of Alpine.

A sure sign

« We have an eye on the future, and his signature allows us to have a tremendous group of young drivers to work with and advance the team for its future success. »

Williams, with whom Franco Colapinto will race during several F1 races in 2024, wished his co-driver well. “Take good care of him,” posted the English team in response to this announcement.

A sign shows that the Argentine has a special status at Alpine. In the press release, Flavio Briatore spoke, while during the announcement of Ryo Hirakawa’s recruitment on the same day, it was Oliver Oakes who spoke. Another sign that Franco Colapinto will be protected by the Enstone team?
