Formula 1 has been booming in recent years, and Hollywood doesn’t intend to miss out on the phenomenon. After months of teasing, we finally know the release date of the highly anticipated F1 film featuring Brad Pitt.

It’s now official: F1, the film featuring Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton, will be released on June 27, 2025, in North America and as of June 25 internationally. The announcement was made by Formula One itself on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by a promotional image featuring Brad Pitt behind the wheel.

This project, produced by Apple Original Films, was filmed in real conditions during several Grand Prix, with scenes captured on legendary circuits like Silverstone. And be aware, this is not just a simple Hollywood fiction: the production collaborated directly with Formula 1 to ensure maximum authenticity.

The new trailer for the film “F1”:

A story of comeback and mentorship

But then, what is this film about? Brad Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver who found glory in the 90s before a brutal accident pushed him towards other disciplines. Everything changes when an old friend, played by Javier Bardem, offers him a major challenge: return to F1 to support Joshua Pierce, a young prodigy played by Damson Idris.

Pitt himself summarized the plot to Sky F1: « It’s a last place team, they’re 21-22 on the grid, they’ve never scored a point. But they have a young phenomenon… and they bring me in as a kind of Hail Mary, and hijinks ensue. »

If F1 promises a gripping storyline, it’s mainly its realism that is likely to impress spectators. Unlike classic car racing movies, there is no excessive use of effects or green screens here: “There are cameras mounted all around the car,” explains Brad Pitt. “You’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen G-forces like this. It’s really, really exciting.”

The racing scenes will be ultra-immersive, filmed directly on the track with single-seaters specially designed for the shoot. A bit like what Kosinski did with fighter jets in Top Gun: Maverick. And to ensure maximum credibility, Lewis Hamilton is involved as a producer. The seven-time world champion has helped shape the story and advised the actors to make the racing scenes as close to reality as possible.

A film that will further boost the popularity of F1

Since *Drive to Survive*, Formula 1 has exploded in popularity, especially in the United States. With a superstar like **Brad Pitt** and a director who has already proven his talent for immersive action, F1 could well be the film that takes the love of motorsport to an unprecedented level.

So, ready to experience F1 on the big screen like never before?
