George Russell: “A solid result for the team”
Happy third in the Australian Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver was all smiles when he stepped out of his single-seater in Melbourne.
Discreet but with a steady pace for much of the race, George Russell was able to take advantage of the difficult conditions in the final laps to finish on the podium of the Australian Grand Prix.
« This is a big race for us. Bringing this 3rd place home is incredible. It wasn’t our best weekend in terms of pace, but it’s still positive ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix next week » the British driver said before stepping onto the podium.
Third behind Lando Norris and Max Verstappen at the time of the last restart, Russell believed for a moment that he could compete for the victory.
« On the restart, I hoped there was a mistake ahead of me. In these conditions, you never know what can happen but I am very satisfied with this race. McLaren is far ahead but I consider it a solid result on our part. I also want to say well done to Kimi for his very good race.
Solid overall result for Mercedes as, with Russell’s podium and Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s impressive 5th place, the team led by Toto Wolff leaves Melbourne in 2nd place in the Constructors’ Championship.
