Richard Hopkins discusses Max Verstappen’s potential future team
Max Verstappen could be tempted to join Ferrari if Lewis Hamilton decides to leave early. That's the conclusion of Hopkins, ex-director of operations at Red Bull. Nevertheless, he doesn't rule out Aston Martin.

Aston Martin or Ferrari, green or red? This question stirs up the former paddock regulars, but also the current personalities. But who better than a former Red Bull team member, who worked with Max Verstappen, to give us his opinion on the matter?
For the Brit, it’s not a simple seat choice: many factors come into play. First of all, regarding other teams, McLaren would have to make a big mistake by parting ways with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri for Verstappen to find a spot there. But that’s absolutely not in the plans for the English team.
Then, Mercedes is another contender, the team is showing a resurgence in performance. With a rookie who doesn’t lack bite and Russell, whose role as a leader fits him like a glove.
And then, there is Ferrari. If Lewis does not extend his stay, a premature retirement would open up an opportunity for Max. A prospect that could be interesting. Hopkins clearly sees an opening in the Italian team for Verstappen if Hamilton decides to leave earlier than expected. The Ferraris are clearly at the top of the list, he said to Prime Casino.
Although his contract with Red Bull runs until 2028, the future of Max Verstappen is once again at the center of discussions, particularly due to Adrian Newey’s arrival at Aston Martin. Hopkins speculates on the possibility that Verstappen might be tempted to join his former collaborator, highlighting Newey’s considerable influence and history of success in Formula 1. “Honestly, yes, I think Verstappen could be tempted by Aston Martin if Adrian Newey is involved,” he stated.
Even if Verstappen has been dominating the races (or almost) for the past 3 years, the challenge would be to build a championship team on solid foundations. This could influence his decision-making. The presence of Newey, recognized as one of the best engineers of all time, could not only attract other talents to Aston Martin but also spark Verstappen’s interest. Just like Lewis Hamilton who hopes to make history with Ferrari, Max might want the opportunity to say: They are at the top now and I helped them get there. It would also be a chance to leave a lasting legacy, shape the future of Aston Martin, and contribute to its rise to the top of Formula 1, which might appeal to the Dutch driver.
