Official: McLaren announces its arrival in Hypercar
The British manufacturer, through the voice of Zak Brown, has announced its return to the premier class of the Endurance World Championship.

Everyone knew it. It just needed to wait for confirmation. And it arrived this Thursday, April 10. McLaren announced that the brand will be returning to the top category of endurance racing, the Hypercar. The Woking team will arrive in 2027 with its car.
« We are back »,” simply stated Zak Brown, McLaren’s director. « We are back in the World Endurance Championship. We will race to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. We will join the Hypercar category. We are excited. Thirty years ago, we won on our Le Mans debut in a car we weren’t supposed to race. »
The American is referring here to the McLaren F1 GTR, which prevailed in Le Mans, even over the prototypes, taking advantage of the adverse weather conditions to stand out.
With a victory at the Indianapolis 500 and the Monaco Grand Prix, McLaren is among the few teams to have claimed the triple crown, this fictitious trophy highlights the victory of the same entity in these three legendary races. This statistic has also inspired Zak Brown, who hopes to achieve it again with three successes in the same year.
Excited that McLaren Racing will return to one of the world’s most challenging global racing series, the @FIAWEC from 2027 onwards.
Le Mans 1995 is where we secured a legendary win at the first attempt, and I can’t wait for the team to make history once again.

For now, no visuals of the car have been released. The brand has remained very vague, similar to Genesis a few months ago. More details are expected to be provided at a press conference on the eve of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It is highly likely that this will take place in the circuit museum, which is hosting a McLaren exhibition. Naturally, there are several F1 GTRs that have roamed the Le Mans track. Additionally, Zak Brown announced at the Qatar 1,812 kilometers that he would be present at Le Mans.
As a reminder, a brand that commits to Hypercar must be operated by a structure. Alpine is with Signatech, Ferrari with AF Corse… It would logically seem that United Autosport is in charge of the project since the team is owned by Zak Brown.
