6 Hours of Imola – Free Practice 3: Ferrari with no real competition

The Ferrari 499Ps seem more than at home on the Imola track. The Scuderia led the final practice session ahead of a surprising Peugeot.

If the hierarchy changes roughly in each session, at the top of the standings, it doesn’t move. For now, Ferrari has no competition for these 6 Hours of Imola. The Scuderia secured a new one-two in the last free practice session, with the #51 ahead of the #50.

If BMW or Cadillac used to monopolize the positions behind, this time it’s the Peugeot #94 that secured this position. However, the American Hypercar wasn’t far off with a fourth reference obtained by the #38. Toyota regained some performance by climbing to the fifth place.

The two Alpines have integrated the first part of the table. A few hours before the qualifiers, the A424s are in good shape and could make a strong showing for the race. On the other hand, Porsche hasn’t placed any of its 963s in the top 10. The best placed, #6, only achieved the eleventh time. A difficult weekend so far for the Stuttgart brand.

Note that the Cadillac #12 barely ran as it was involved in an accident. And the Ferrari #83 completed only four laps. Thick smoke billowed from the engine of car #83. Robert Kubica had no choice but to park it in the safety lanes.

In GT3, the Akkodis team continues its good form at the start of the season. The #78 Lexus set the best time in this third practice session, ahead of the #21 AF Corse Ferrari. As in Hypercar, the Porsches were far behind. Whether for Manthey or Iron Dames, speed is lacking. We’ll see if they’re holding back for the rest of the Italian weekend.
