ePrix de Monaco 2025 – Race 2: Sébastien Buemi’s first FE win in six years!

Thanks to a perfect use of Attack Mode at the end of the race, the Swiss driver took his first victory since season 5 in 2019, his third in Monaco.

Call him the King of Monaco. Already the only Formula E driver to have won at least two races in the Principality before this weekend, Sébastien Buemi reinforced his status as a specialist on the Monaco track today.

However, not many people would have bet on a third victory for the Swiss driver in Monaco at the start of the race. Starting 8th, Buemi waited in the leading pack for a good part of the race before launching his attacks on his competitors in the final laps, crossing the line with more than four seconds ahead of the previous day’s winner, Oliver Rowland.

This fourteenth success in Formula E, the first since the New York ePrix in 2019, allows the Season 2 champion to climb to the tenth position in the championship. A championship in which Rowland has strengthened his lead. First on Saturday and then pole-sitter and second on Sunday, the Nissan driver leaves Monaco with a consolidated lead over his pursuers.

The third place on the podium went to Nick Cassidy. Winner two years ago in the Principality and then second last year, the New Zealander continues his impressive collection of podiums in Monaco. Starting 14th, the Jaguar driver made the comeback of the day by earning his first podium of the season, the second for Jaguar after Mitch Evans’ victory in Sao Paulo.

Another podium contender but unlucky at the end of the race, Jean-Eric Vergne. Leading for a long time after starting from the fourth position on the grid, the DS Penske driver had a strong start by taking the lead after using his first Attack Mode. The safety car’s deployment to clear Nico Müller’s crashed car dashed the Frenchman’s hopes. Defending at the race restart, Vergne ultimately finished in 6th place.

In the championship, Rowland now has a 48-point lead over Antonio Felix da Costa, while Porsche only has a seven-point lead over Nissan in the constructors’ standings.

The next ePrix will take place in Tokyo for two races on the 17th and 18th of May.
