Big frustration for Jack Doohan in Miami
Already under threat, Jack Doohan wasn't helped by Alpine in qualifying for the Sprint race either. He didn't hide his anger on the radio.

The week hasn’t been easy for Jack Doohan as an Argentine sponsor announced that he believed Franco Colapinto would be taking the Alpine seat as early as Imola, the next race in the championship. Naturally, Oliver Oakes, the team’s principal, couldn’t avoid the question during his appearance at the Friday press conference in Miami. The Brit did his best to refute this claim, without being entirely convinced (and convincing) himself about what he was saying: I knew this would happen. I saw it, like everyone else. I think it’s an Argentine sponsor who gave his opinion off-camera about when Franco would be in the car. I’m sure a lot of people in Argentina want to see him in the car this Sunday. We’ve been quite open as a team, but it’s just noise. Jack has to continue doing a good job, but it’s natural there are always speculations. Today, Jack is our driver with Pierre. We’ve been quite clear about that. We are always analyzing, but today, that’s the case.
There has been a more significant boost in confidence towards a pilot. In such a context, it’s all the more understandable why the same Jack Doohan was angry when he couldn’t be put on track in time to make a second attempt during SQ1, which relegated him to 17th place in the session.

Obviously, when it came time to appear before the press, he was much more measured in his remarks: « During the last relay, we lost places in the pitlane queue when the car had to be pushed by the mechanics, which caused us to lose positions and forced us to push to try to cross the line in time. It was frustrating not to be able to do a second lap, especially with the improvements in times that we could see and the potential of the car. This is something we will need to analyze and discuss within the team. »
On his side, Pierre Gasly did slightly better with the 13th fastest time.
