Oscar Piastri proved once again that he's much more than a championship outsider with a brilliant win at the Miami 2025 Grand Prix.

Despite a tense end to the race and unexpected technical issues, the Australian demonstrated the full extent of his composure and talent.

A dazzling start in the Sprint

The weekend had nevertheless started on a slightly more frustrating note. During the sprint race on Friday, held in wet conditions, Oscar Piastri pulled off a perfect start by overtaking Max Verstappen at the very first corner. Leading a good part of the race, he eventually lost the victory to his teammate Lando Norris, who took advantage of a safety car period to make his pit stop at the right moment. Oscar Piastri had to settle for second place, an honorable but slightly bitter result given his performance.

A solid qualification

On Saturday, the qualifying confirmed the good form of the McLaren driver. Oscar Piastri clocked the fourth fastest time, behind Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, and the young Kimi Antonelli. A place on the second row that offered him **a great opportunity for the main race.**

A hard-earned and deserved victory

Sunday, under a clear sky and in front of an animated crowd, Oscar Piastri perfectly managed his race. After getting past Max Verstappen on the 14th lap, he took the lead and never relinquished it. However, securing the victory was not easy. In the final laps, issues with the braking system and energy recovery almost compromised his race. Despite these difficulties, Oscar Piastri remained calm and maintained his lead until the checkered flag.

« I won the race that I really wanted to win – yesterday was complicated, the qualifying session was one of my most difficult of the year, so coming away with the victory is an incredible result. I was clear-headed enough to avoid Max at the first corner, and from there, I knew I had a good pace advantage », he says.

« The car was incredible today. The stint on hard tires was a bit more challenging, so there are still things to improve. We have to keep learning, but I am very happy to leave Miami in the lead. » McLaren once again demonstrates its superiority. « Two years ago, right here, we were the slowest team. I believe we got lapped twice. Today, we just won the race with a 35-second lead. »

With this fourth victory of the season, Oscar Piastri strengthens his position as the leader in the drivers’ standings. If McLaren continues to provide him with a competitive and, above all, reliable car, he could be one of the serious contenders for the world title this year.
