Verstappen: “I had nothing to lose, so I just wanted to have fun”
Starting on pole, Max Verstappen could do no better than fourth. But he sold his place dearly to the two McLaren drivers.

The only thing that interests Max Verstappen is winning. However, he knows that he currently does not have the adequate equipment to compete against the two McLaren drivers. On a track where the thermal degradation of the tires is significant, they have a massive advantage over everything else. Tire management seems to be the predominant factor, which is why Red Bull has launched analyses with thermal imaging to try to uncover McLaren’s secret on the matter.
This did not prevent him from having a very aggressive defense once again, but still remaining within the limits of regulations against Oscar Piastri and on two occasions against Lando Norris: « I had nothing to lose, so I wanted to have fun. » He thus acknowledged that the rules are now clear from the race management.
It seems he no longer has many illusions about the rest of the championship but is eager to race on tracks he prefers to that of Miami: « I’m looking forward to going on tracks where I enjoy driving! With the gap they have, realistically, we have little chance, but if we’re on circuits where overtaking is difficult, then yes, we have a small chance. »
