Pierre Gasly, a weekend to forget despite a point in the sprint

In Miami, Pierre Gasly saved Alpine's honor with a point in the sprint race. But his frustration was palpable on Sunday, after a weekend in which the French single-seater proved impotent. The season is still long, but the team needs to turn things around - fast.

Pierre Gasly’s weekend in Miami proved particularly challenging. Despite a solid performance during the sprint race, the French Alpine driver faced numerous challenges, including a starting penalty in the main race, which hampered his chances of scoring additional points.

A point gained during the sprint race

The sprint race, held in changing weather conditions, allowed Gasly to stand out. Starting from 13th, he managed to take advantage of incidents and penalties given to other drivers to climb to 8th place, securing a valuable point for Alpine.

Then, during the main race, Pierre Gasly was forced to start from the pit lane due to modifications made to his car’s suspension under Parc Fermé conditions. This penalty immediately compromised his chances of climbing back up the pack.

Despite his efforts, he did not succeed in entering the top 10, finishing 13th. Very clear-eyed after the finish, he did not deceive himself: “I don’t really know why, but clearly we need to understand how to regain performance today.”

Yesterday, things weren’t working as they should have. Given the pace we had today, I don’t think it would have made much difference anyway. We’re just too slow, and there isn’t much to delve into », he said, visibly jaded.

What’s happening at Alpine?

The Frenchman also mentioned the performance gap with the first races: « We need to understand why, and make sure that at Imola (in two weeks, Editor’s note), we come back with a package that works like in Jeddah and Bahrain. »

Should we expect technical innovations? « No, the car will be the same. But with this same car in Jeddah and Bahrain, we were fighting for points. Here, we finished far behind. Clearly, something didn’t work this weekend. »
