Despite the staggering amounts, the bidding continued. 10 million, 11 million, 12 million… until it reached 15,980,000 euros. This is the sum for which the Ferrari F2001 was sold at auction on Saturday, May 24.

This single-seater driven by Michael Schumacher won the Monaco Grand Prix and the world championship a few weeks later. In the meantime, this chassis secured pole position and then victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

« The F2001 excelled in its higher downforce version in Monaco. Lighter than the car from the previous year, Ferrari was comfortably below the minimum weight limit of 600 kg (including the driver), which allowed them to strategically place ballast to optimize settings from one circuit to another », recalls RM Sotheby’s, the house that sold the single-seater.

The chassis 211, the most sought-after of all the F2001s, recently underwent a major revision by the Ferrari factory in 2005.
