Pierre Gasly takes important points for Alpine in Spain
Eighth at the finish of the Spanish Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly is the only man to score points for Alpine. He underlines a good result, even if his team fell to last place in the championship.
A good and a bad news. After a new qualification in Q3, Pierre Gasly once again carried Alpine’s hopes to shine during this Spanish Grand Prix.
After a fairly calm race, the Frenchman controlled his performance. Under normal conditions, he lost only one position to Nico Hülkenberg, who was in a league of his own this Sunday. Finishing ninth, he benefited from Max Verstappen’s penalty to regain a position.
« I think we need to look at our race. We had a good race. Overall, we are happy to score points », said the Tricolore on Canal + microphone. « We took a few blue flags in the second stint, we lost a bit of time. »
Even though he brings new points to his team, Alpine has fallen to the last place in the constructors’ championship. A rather sad piece of news during this celebratory weekend for the brand’s 70th anniversary. Alone, Pierre Gasly cannot do everything, as his teammate finished far behind and was not on the pace.
