Alpine to forget the bad memories of 2024 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
After a chaotic 2024, Alpine is determined to set the record straight. Performance and reliability seem to be in the French camp.
More than one broken heart. In 45 minutes, the French public saw both Alpine A424 cars drop out due to engine problems. A tough lesson for the Dieppe brand, which was returning to the top category.
Since this split, Alpine seems to have resolved the reliability issues, as has Mécachrome which provides the engine. In addition to that, the blue cars are showing incredible pace with two consecutive podiums, including a victory that just slipped away from #36.
If one of the cars tends to perform better, the second one is a bit more in difficulty. Even if the pace is there, numerous mistakes are costly. Between very avoidable penalties, overconfidence, and commitment… It’s a whole bunch of little things that, combined, undermine the #35 and prevent it from ranking among the top.
Positive point compared to last year, the French brand has a new experienced driver in its ranks. Frédéric Makowiecki has joined the #36 crew. This is not to undermine Nicolas Lapierre, who did significant work in the development of the A424, but this new face has demonstrated a certain ease and aggressiveness that have allowed the team to perform well. Nico Lapierre still remains part of the team, providing strong support for understanding and good rapport within the structure.
Alpine has a solid foundation before returning to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Much more than last year. Now, everything must be put together to rank among the leaders.
