Carlos Sainz will take the wheel of his Williams FW45 this Saturday, June 7, on the streets of Madrid to offer a preview of the Spanish Grand Prix, which will return to the capital in 2026. The Madrid driver will cover nearly a kilometer on a section of the future MADRING circuit, between Ribera del Sena Street and Avenida del Partenón, up to the south entrance of the IFEMA exhibition center.

The free event will take place at 7:00 PM. Sainz, official ambassador of the future Spanish Grand Prix, will thus discover for the first time a portion of the track that will host F1.

The Williams driver, happy to race at home, welcomed the opportunity to share his passion with Madrilenians and visitors: « Madrid is obviously my hometown. I grew up here, and it’s in this city that I started karting. Having the opportunity to drive an F1 at home is a dream come true, and an incredible opportunity for Madrid to showcase our potential and our desire to become the best circuit and the most memorable event on the F1 calendar! This roadshow is just a first step in bringing Formula 1 closer to everyone and highlighting the unique character of the track that MADRING will offer. », he said in a statement.

Martí and Boya on the program

Sainz will not be alone on the Madrid asphalt. Pepe Martí, a member of the Red Bull Junior Team who competes in Formula 2 with the Spanish team Campos Racing, will also take part in the demonstration. Mari Boya, Martí’s teammate at Campos but in Formula 3, will complete the trio.

These three drivers will give spectators an overview of the different categories of motorsport, from F1 to promotion series. Indeed, this roadshow also aims to share this sports universe for free in an urban setting, before the official opening of the MADRING.

Presented as the first “tardeo” of MADRING, a nod to the Spanish tradition of festive afternoons, the event will offer a fan zone, food trucks, and official product stalls.

A first step towards 2026

Luis García Abad, in charge of the F1 project for the future Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, emphasized the symbolic significance of this first initiative: « This event clearly demonstrates Madrid’s commitment to Formula 1 and represents a unique opportunity for fans to experience this passion up close. »

He also mentioned the honor represented by the presence of Carlos Sainz as the Grand Prix ambassador. For him, this collaboration with the Spanish driver and his team, Williams, marks the starting point of a new chapter for the Madrid event.

Next year, Madrid will once again host F1 after a 45-year absence. The contract runs from 2026 to 2035, with an estimated economic impact of 450 million euros annually for the region. The construction, budgeted at 83.2 million euros, is expected to be completed in May 2026 for a first race scheduled, after the summer break, in September. The city will thus become the first major European capital to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix on its territory.
