The last team on the AlphaTauri grid, the younger sister of Red Bull, is expected to change its name. The team had already changed its denomination for the 2020 season to gain more independence from the parent team.

« AlphaTauri will have two new leaders in the form of Laurent Mekies and Peter Bayer as of 2024. There will be new sponsors and also a new name », explains Helmut Marko, Red Bull advisor. During the off-season, both teams were at the center of rumors regarding the sale or relocation of the teams to England.

Finally, it will only be the team based in Faenza that will have a new identity. The Austrian man asserts that there will be new sponsors and also a new name. The direction is clear: based on Red Bull Racing, within the limits of what the regulations allow. Patchwork is not a good solution.

The goal for AlphaTauri would be to get back in the wake of Red Bull by acquiring as many parts as possible from the flagship team in order to return to the mid-field competition. And this is to no longer play at the bottom of the rankings like the Italian-Austrian team is currently doing.

A story spanning nearly 700 races

The driver duo may not be renewed according to Helmut Marko: « Yuki is having a very good season with decent results and unfortunate penalties, but the performance is acceptable. However, we are not satisfied with Nyck de Vries, we will also look into that. (e)

According to Red Bull’s advisor, there will be no Austrian to represent the brand: « It’s very simple. Nobody has the necessary speed. We could bring in an Austrian in Formula 1, but we want young drivers who have the potential to win. There is no one in Austria. »

Since its creation in 1985, Minardi, later renamed Toro Rosso and then AlphaTauri, has participated in 677 Grand Prix races (before the Austrian Grand Prix) with two victories (Sebastian Vettel at Monza in 2005 and Pierre Gasly at Monza in 2020) and five podium finishes.
