Oscar Piastri was fined 100 euros by the stewards during the first free practice of the Canadian Grand Prix. The Australian McLaren driver exceeded the speed limit in the pit lane by only 0.3 km/h, reaching 80.3 km/h compared to the maximum allowed 80 km/h.

The commissioners applied the standard penalty provided by Article 34.7 of the Formula 1 sporting regulations, which concerns exceeding speed limits in the pit lane.

A test session for McLaren

McLaren was conducting comparative tests on its two cars during the first practice sessions. Lando Norris was driving with the old front wing, while Piastri had the new specification, equipped with small winglets inside the wing.

The Australian driver finished this first session in sixteenth place, a result that disguises the real potential of his McLaren. Indeed, the team was primarily focused on gathering technical information rather than achieving the best possible lap time, a common strategy during Friday sessions.
