F1 Academy – Race 3: Chambers wins in Montreal, Pin third

Chloe Chambers secured her first win of the year in the F1 Academy during the third and final race of the Canadian Grand Prix. At the wheel of her Campos Racing car, she withstood pressure from Ella Lloyd to claim a start-to-finish victory at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.

Chambers had secured pole position on Saturday, placing Campos Racing on the front row with her teammate Alisha Palmowski. This performance followed a difficult weekend for the team, which had seen both its drivers collide during the first race on Saturday.

Maya Weug, leader of the championship before this weekend, was unable to participate in qualifying due to technical issues and started from the 15th position.

An animated start to the race

Chambers negotiated the start well and maintained her first place into the first corner. Behind her, Ella Lloyd gained two positions to move into second place, overtaking Palmowski on the outside of the first corner.

The situation became complicated for Palmowski, who, in trying to regain her position, made contact with Lloyd. The incident did not damage the McLaren driver’s car, but Palmowski was hit by Doriane Pin a few meters further. The French driver avoided damage but lost two places to her teammates Tina Hausmann and Nina Gademan.

Further back in the pack, Mathilda Paatz lost control of her Hitech GP in the seventh corner and was hit by her teammate Aiva Anagnostiadis. Both drivers retired, prompting the deployment of the safety car even before the end of the first lap.

A race disrupted by incidents

The race resumed on the eighth lap of the 17 scheduled. Chambers managed the restart perfectly and maintained his lead over Lloyd, while Pin quickly moved up to third position by overtaking Gademan and Hausmann.

A new collision occurred at the tenth turn between Gademan and Emma Felbermayr. The Austrian, winner of the second race, was spun out, forcing Alba Hurup Larsen to leave the track to avoid her.

Meanwhile, Lloyd was dangerously closing in on Chambers. The American had to adopt a defensive driving style at the third corner but managed to maintain her first place. Their battle was interrupted by another intervention of the safety car after Lia Block collided with Rafaela Ferreira at the eighth corner. Block immediately retired with damage to the front left, while Ferreira, having spun, was hit by Aurelia Nobels.

A finish behind the safety car

The race resumed with five laps remaining, but a third incident quickly neutralized the event. Felbermayr collided with Courtney Crone approaching the eighth turn, ending the latter’s race.

The race ended behind the safety car, giving Chambers his first win of the season. Lloyd secured his third consecutive podium of the weekend by finishing second, while Pin completed the podium and extended his championship lead.

Weug limited the damage by climbing from 15th to sixth place, earning valuable points in the title race. Palmowski also made a good recovery to finish seventh after his pit stop early in the race.

In the championship, Pin extends the lead with 109 points, now ahead of Chambers by 20 points (89 points). Weug slips to third place with 72 points, closely followed by Lloyd (67 points), who consolidates his fourth position thanks to his three podiums over the weekend. Palmowski completes the top 5 with 53 points despite his difficulties, ahead of Larsen (46 points), Hausmann (36 points), Gademan (33 points), Felbermayr (21 points), and Block (15 points). The next round of the F1 Academy will take place at Zandvoort from August 29 to 31.
