BMW and a cruel lack of reliability at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
None of the brand's hypercars scored any points. Worse still, the GT3s both dropped out.

Just like last year, BMW was very fast. But also like last year, not many people crossed the finish line. The two GT3s were forced to throw in the towel. The #46 suffered an electrical problem that forced it to retire in the middle of the night. And the other, the #31, collided with a rabbit also in the middle of the night and had to withdraw after this unfortunate encounter.
« Le Mans was not a walk in the park. It is said that you can’t win Le Mans, but that Le Mans chooses its winners. That undoubtedly applies to us. We might not have been able to win, but I think we could have had a chance to fight for the podium, like last year. The WRT team did a fantastic job, and it is very unfortunate that we couldn’t bring either of our cars to the finish line », said Augusto Farfus, from #31.
In Hypercar, the two cars entered by team WRT experienced reliability issues. Both crews were forced to return to the pits two hours before the end. Car #15 had a problem with the hybrid cooling system, while car #20 had to stop in the pits due to an engine problem.
After long repairs, the two prototypes were able to return to the track to be classified in this event, but it’s another blank result for the German brand in Sarthe.
« It is certainly not the weekend we wanted. It is very disappointing, not only for us but also for car #20. After the last two disappointing Le Mans races, we need to make some changes for the future to improve the situation », announced Raffaele Marcielo, from #15.
