The soft tire favored

This year, Pirelli opted for a range a notch softer than in 2024: the C2 will be the hard tire, the C3 the medium, and the C4 the soft.

The drivers will have two sets of hard tires (marked in white), three sets of medium tires (yellow), and eight sets of soft tires (red). They will also have access to intermediate (green) and wet tires (blue), if conditions require.

A set of extra soft tires is reserved for drivers reaching Q3 in qualifying. Additionally, each driver must use at least two different types of slick tires during the race, provided that it takes place on a dry track.

Regarding the choice of this softer range compared to the previous year, Pirelli explains in its weekend preview:

« The goal, shared with the FIA, F1, and the teams, is to expand the strategic options available for the race. In 2024, when the C3 was the soft tire, it was only used by a few drivers at the end of the race after the rain. This year, as the medium tire, it will likely play a key role at several points during the event. »

« For those aiming for a one-stop strategy, pit stops will need to be managed carefully, at the cost of a longer overall race time. It should also be noted that pit stop times are relatively short (about 20.5 seconds), and although it is not easy, overtaking is possible. »

Track conditions side, Pirelli adds: « The circuit is used almost all year round by car and motorcycle competitions, which guarantees a good level of grip from the first free practice session on Friday. Additionally, the asphalt is classified as moderately abrasive. Even in the middle of summer, English weather remains unpredictable, with variable temperatures, wind, and rain that can suddenly change everything during the race, as was the case last year. »
