George Russell’s firm response to Max Verstappen rumours: “I don’t think I’m going to leave”

George Russell firmly responded to rumors that he could be replaced by Max Verstappen, stating: « I don’t think I’m going anywhere ».

The main topic of discussion before the British Grand Prix this weekend concerns the speculation about Max Verstappen’s future with Red Bull.

Sky Italia reported that Max Verstappen had allegedly accepted to leave Red Bull to join Mercedes. The well-known Dutch journalist Erik van Heren has since denied this information.

George Russell is coming to the end of his contract at the end of this season, but he remains adamant that he will drive for Mercedes next year.

During the FIA press conference at Silverstone, the Briton stated: “I mean, each team has two seats available, and it’s normal for each team to think about what the future holds. I don’t take it personally, as I’ve clearly said from the beginning that I’m happy to be teammates with anyone.”

George Russell also revealed that he had more in-depth discussions with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff over the past week, amid the multitude of rumors.

“There are many behind-the-scenes conversations that are not public, and I know where their loyalty lies,” he added.

When asked if he was talking to other teams, he simply replied: « No ».
