Toyota on course for a first WEC win at Interlagos this season?

Last year's winner at Interlagos, Toyota will be aiming to repeat the feat this year and put an end to Ferrari's domination.

What if it were the underdog that pulled off a big coup? After four consecutive wins for Ferrari, the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo could mark a turning point this season. The Scuderia does not have a good BoP – for the first time this season -, a factor that could benefit the competitors.

The Japanese brand could come out on top at a circuit where it shone last year, especially since its BoP is much better than at Spa. A good result at Interlagos would help to forget the Le Mans blunder.

« We did not achieve the expected result at Le Mans, which makes winning the World Championship almost impossible. But we never give up and we want to fight for victory at every race. We know it will be a challenge, as our competitors have performed well this season, but we are all working very hard to achieve it », said Kamui Kobayashi, team director and driver of the #7.

For this race, Toyota will be without one of its drivers. Sébastien Buemi, from car #8, will be absent for this fourth round of the world championship. He is held up in his Formula E championship.

Last year, both of our cars had a great race, which gives us confidence for the weekend. Interlagos is one of the highlights of our season thanks to the unwavering support of Toyota do Brasil, the incredible fans at the circuit, and the truly special atmosphere. Obviously, after Le Mans, we all want a good result to start the second half of the season on a positive note. Of course, we’ll miss Séb, but it’s not a problem to run a six-hour race with two drivers, summarized Brendon Hartley of the #8.

With a good qualification, the Japanese brand could still hope for great things. On paper, everything seems to currently favor the GR010.
