Franco Colapinto to start from the pits in the Spa Sprint
Forced to replace his rear wing, the Alpine F1 driver will not be able to start from the grid for the Sprint race scheduled for this Saturday at Spa.
Weekend definitely complicated for Franco Colapinto in Belgium. Struggling during the Sprint qualifications with only the 19th time while his teammate Pierre Gasly achieved an excellent 8th time, the Argentine driver will ultimately have to start from the pit lane.
The reason? The Alpine F1 team had to replace the rear wing of car number 43 in Parc Fermé between Friday and Saturday.
However, this part change was made without the permission of the FIA technical delegate. Given that the new rear wing is different from the previously used one, Colapinto will thus be forced to start from the pit lane according to article 40.9 b of the Formula 1 sporting regulations.
A bad news for Alpine and its driver as the French team is last in the constructors’ championship before the start of the second half of the season this weekend at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
