Excellent qualifying result for Alex Albon

Ranked just behind Max Verstappen after qualifying, the Williams driver is hoping to score plenty of points for his team in Belgium.

After Sauber’s exceptional performance three weeks ago at Silverstone, is it Williams’ turn to shine at Spa-Francorchamps? What is certain is that their driver Alex Albon has given himself the means in qualifying. On the rollercoaster of the Ardennes, the Thai driver qualified 5th for the race.

« I am very happy with this lap. The tires worked very well during Q3. We made no mistakes, which certainly helps to be performant. We maximized everything that was at our disposal so I am very happy. »

Williams is one of the few teams bringing developments this weekend in Belgium. With this strong performance in qualifying, there is no doubt that these are working on the FW47.

« The developments are working very well, it is the step forward we needed. It feels good to be back among the leaders of the pack. It’s surely going to rain for the race, but we are well positioned to score good points. »

Result, on the other hand, disappointing for Carlos Sainz, only 15th. The Spanish driver has spent little time on the track since the beginning of the weekend after encountering a problem during the free practice session on Friday morning.

« It is a disappointing result. I had a good lap in Q1 but I couldn’t go faster in Q2, as I didn’t find enough grip. We tried several solutions with the car’s balance and setup throughout the weekend, but clearly, the day didn’t go our way. There should be opportunities for the race if it rains, so let’s stay focused because the weekend is not over yet. »
