Oscar Piastri happy to win on one of his favourite circuits
Winning his sixth race of the season, the McLaren driver strengthened his championship lead over team-mate Lando Norris.

He dreamed of it, he did it! Like many (very) drivers, Oscar Piastri wanted to add the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit to his list of achievements. At the end of a race with no real suspense despite the very wet conditions in the Ardennes, the Australian driver launched an attack during the first pass at Les Combes, before maintaining his leading position for the 44 laps on the schedule.
It’s an excellent feeling to win one of my favorite races. I knew the first lap was going to be my best chance to win the race, so I made sure my maneuver worked, of which I am very proud.
When the track began to dry after about ten laps, Piastri chose to switch to medium tires rather than hard ones, a choice his teammate Lando Norris made, for example. A rewarding decision that allowed him to widen the gap on his pursuers.
« We then managed the rest of the race very well. I struggled a bit at the end with the mediums but I felt I had them under control. Thank you very much to the whole team for giving us an excellent car this weekend. I’m excited for Hungary. »
With this result, Piastri now has a 16-point lead at the top of the championship over Norris, as the 14th round of the season in Budapest looms next week.
