Mercedes is on the “right track” to compete against Red Bull
According to George Russell, Mercedes could get closer to Red Bull's race pace. The Austrian team remains unbeaten this season, whether in sprints or Grand Prix races.

After a second podium in two Grand Prix races for Mercedes, the Silver Arrows are positioned as the second team on the grid, competing with Aston Martin (third in the championship, 13 points behind the German team).
Despite a retirement during the Canadian Grand Prix after hitting a wall (on lap 12, but the British driver only retired at the end of the race), George Russell showed a rather high race pace, even getting back into the points before ending his race. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, secured a third place.
« I think that transitioning from Barcelona to here, two quite contrasting circuits, bodes well for the future, explains former Williams driver in an interview with crash.net.
For number 63, Mercedes is closing in on Red Bull, the team that dominates the championship, but it’s not enough. Of course, as a team, we’re aiming for more than just second place. We need to bridge the gap that separates us from Red Bull, but our pace here clearly shows that we’re on the right track, stated the British driver.
For now, only the Red Bulls driven by Max Verstappen (six victories) and Sergio Pérez (two victories) have made it to the top step of the podium.
