Fernando Alonso: “We were hoping to be able to challenge the Red Bull a bit more.”
Second at the finish, Fernando Alonso had a challenging race for 70 laps. Towards the end of the Grand Prix, he managed to withstand Lewis Hamilton's comeback.
Close to Max Verstappen throughout the race, Fernando Alonso at one point believed he could have attacked the Dutchman. But the pace was slightly below that of the number 1 Red Bull. « We were hoping to be able to challenge Red Bull a little more, but we also lost a position at the start with Lewis and it was more of a battle with Mercedes. »
“We’re trying to find a bit more traction and that might be why we still lack a bit of rhythm. I hope we’ll put even more pressure on Max in the next race,” said the Spaniard to Jenson Button’s microphone.
“A challenging race where it was impossible to relax for a moment, that’s the assessment delivered by Alonso of this Grand Prix.”
