But Hamilton and his team manager, Toto Wolff, have insisted that any negotiation would be simple. Both men confirmed that the discussions would take place on the Monday following the Spanish Grand Prix, two weeks ago.
Quand questioned about their progress, Hamilton said, “Yes, we have discussed it but there is nothing new to add. I have seen Toto, we have spoken several times. We have an excellent relationship, but there is nothing else to say at the moment.”
A very strong link that unites Hamilton and Mercedes
One of the keys to the relationship between the British and Mercedes has been the support of the German manufacturer for the British’s efforts to improve diversity and inclusion within the team, F1, and society in general.
Hamilton explained to what extent the details regarding initiatives such as « Ignite and « Accelerate 25 were included in the contract negotiations: « I believe we have already covered a large part of these aspects in the previous contract. »
We have a group of extraordinary individuals at the factory who are focused on diversity and inclusion, and significant progress has been made within our team since we first had serious conversations. The work we are doing with Accelerate 25 and Ignite, now part of the “Mission 44” program, is incredible. The team is always very supportive.
The record holder for Formula 1 victories is truly proud of what the Mission 44 program has already been able to accomplish, which today funds more than twenty different organizations.
