Hamilton attributes the double podium to Mick Schumacher
Reserve Mercedes driver, Mick Schumacher, performed extensive work in the simulator until late Friday evening before the Spanish GP. This work allowed for optimizing the car to the maximum in preparation for Sunday's race.

Lewis Hamilton praised Mick Schumacher’s role in Mercedes’ double podium at the Spanish Grand Prix, thanks to the essential work carried out by the former Haas driver throughout the weekend.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion finished second behind the winner Max Verstappen, starting from fourth place on the grid, while his teammate George Russell made his way through the field from 12th place.
Mercedes had introduced a series of improvements during the Monaco Grand Prix, but had the opportunity to establish a true correlation between the data and the track for the first time on Friday during the free practice sessions at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The W14 struggled to find its rhythm at the beginning but improved in the hands of Hamilton during qualifying. The team’s director, Toto Wolff, even claimed that the British driver should have started on the front row alongside Verstappen’s Red Bull.
« We have an incredible team with Mick »
Hamilton has consistently improved throughout the weekend, thanks to the work done at the Brackley base of the team, highlighting the contribution of Schumacher in his role as reserve driver.
“The car provided great sensations,” Hamilton said when asked how the improvements had gone. “On Friday, finding the balance was really difficult, it was completely out of the window. It was very challenging to drive, very unpredictable, and then we did a good job overnight.”
We have a great team with Mick: he was back in the simulator on Friday night and did a good job. It helped us get on track on Saturday. We did a good job trying to understand the different levels of support and racing. […] For George, going from twelfth to third place is simply remarkable. So it’s a very good result for the team.
