Charles Leclerc baffled by his tires
Having left the pit lane after making some changes to his car, Charles Leclerc hoped for a more flamboyant comeback than the one he experienced. The Monegasque finished the race in 11th position, outside of the points. He gives a rather sad assessment of his Sunday afternoon.

This comeback from Charles Leclerc was expected to be difficult before the start of the race, but it turned out to be even more complicated than everyone imagined. Unable to get his tires into the right operating window, the Scuderia driver did his best and highlighted the difficulties he encountered.
An understanding of tires
From one relay to another, the performance of car #16 has evolved. Sometimes competitive, sometimes sorely lacking in rhythm, Charles Leclerc was never able to understand his tires.

« We’re not consistent at all. We put two hards in the race: one hard is a disaster and the second hard is pretty good. We catch up with Pierre in the end. But well, the second hard was much better than the first one, so we really need to understand because every time we’re a little surprised by what happens with the tires and we never manage to get them in the right window. »
« That’s what causes huge gaps. In the same race, by putting the same set of tires twice, we go from a fairly good car to a completely different car,» exclaimed Charles Leclerc on Canal+.
Leclerc wanted to finish on soft tires
At the moment of heading back to the pit lane for the last time, Charles Leclerc had asked for soft tires for his final stint. However, his engineer informed him that hard tires would be put on during the pit stop. A moment of misunderstanding.
“I was convinced that we were going to end up with some soft ones,” he declared.
A recurring tire problem according to the Monegasque
Since the beginning of the year and even since last season, the functioning of the tires has constantly been a problem for Scuderia Ferrari. The problem has still not been resolved and continues to weigh down the team.
« We need to understand because it’s not the first time it’s happened to us and we don’t understand what to do with these tires. We really need to understand,» Leclerc said.
Next appointment in Montreal on the Gilles Villeneuve track. Until then, Ferrari will have time to look into this problem. Let’s hope for them that they manage to find a solution.
