Lewis Hamilton will start in 4th position on the starting grid this Sunday, benefiting from a rather good performance on Saturday despite a controversial collision with his teammate, and especially benefiting from Pierre Gasly’s penalties which allow him to gain a place. The Briton therefore has a good chance of stepping onto the podium in Montmelo, where the Circuit de Catalunya is located.

The improvements clearly worked, he told the journalists after the qualifications, adding that it is certainly encouraging. If we were fighting for the championship, I might be a little more frustrated to have lost two tenths of a second at turn 10.

Less rebounds on Saturday

Lewis Hamilton has addressed his incident with his teammate George Russell, stating to journalists that it was primarily a “communication breakdown”. The veteran British driver shared his side of the story, saying, “With George, we were on different time laps. When I arrived at turn 12, I didn’t see anyone in front of me, so I accelerated and picked up the pace. I arrived at turn 13 and saw George; he seemed to be heading towards the pit lane, so I continued, and he began to come back across, which was obviously a bit confusing because he didn’t know I was there. I thought he was preparing for his first lap and giving me a signal, like a slipstream.”

But his teammate, on the contrary, closed the door on him, slightly damaging the car of the seven-time world champion. « «There are damages to the front wing and floor,» added the British driver, indicating that he spoke to Russell about the accident just before coming to the interview.

Regarding the race, Lewis Hamilton appears quite confident and should suffer less from porpoising, as was the case on Friday. As for the bumps, it was certainly better on Saturday, much fewer bumps, maybe just a little at Turn 14. The track is great with the new chicane, so exciting. “I will try to go after Max,” he concluded with a smile, visibly relaxed.
