Max Verstappen: “I pushed to the limit on my last lap”
Author of an incredible qualifying lap on his last attempt, Max Verstappen claimed the first pole position of his career in Monaco.

The qualifying session of this Monaco Grand Prix 2023 will be remembered as one of the most thrilling in recent years. With several drivers closely competing, the slightest mistake could cost several positions on the grid. After an intense Q3, Max Verstappen emerged as the victorious contender in this magnificent battle.
I am very happy with this pole even if I don’t think it’s the most beautiful of my career. I knew what I had to do in the last lap. I pushed to the maximum. It was about stringing together the best sectors in the same lap.
Referring to the importance of pole position in Monaco, Verstappen takes the opportunity to salute his team: “Being first in Monaco is great for the whole team that has done a great job. It’s all about confidence here. Everything must be taken into account to make the best lap.”
The double world champion then focused on tomorrow’s race: « It will be important to have a good start because it’s a short distance to the first corner. Anything can happen here in Monaco, from rain to safety cars. There might be some chaos. The race pace seems good, we just need to stay calm and drive cleanly. »
In Monaco, Max Verstappen has secured the 23rd pole position of his career, surpassing Fernando Alonso by one.
