The Emilie-Romagne Grand Prix in Imola threatened by floods
The heavy rains currently hitting the northern region of Italy could force the organizers to cancel the Formula 1 Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend in Imola.

Will we witness the sixth round of the Formula 1 World Championship this weekend? The question arises as the weather services of the region where the Imola circuit is located issued a red alert for flooding on Tuesday, May 16th. The affected residents are thus advised to stay at home at least until Wednesday evening.
A few days ago, these torrential rains claimed two lives and several hundred people were forced to evacuate their homes. Several landslides also occurred in the region.
Formula 1 teams could be affected prior to the race weekend as they need to assemble their motorhomes and transport the cars and all the parts to the circuit. The red alert is currently issued for Tuesday and Wednesday, but we can hope for an improvement in the following days, even though heavy rain is expected again on Saturday during the qualifying session.
The Imola circuit is located near the Santerno River. It runs alongside the track on its northern part, from the double-left of Rivazza to the hairpin of Tosa, passing behind the stands and the paddock. A significant flood could force the organizers to cancel the Grand Prix, but that is not currently on the agenda.
