Damon Hill wonders if F1 fans “understand” Formula 1
The former world champion doesn't understand why some fans have found the Miami Grand Prix boring, questioning their knowledge of the sport.

The new climb by Max Verstappen, the continued dominance of Red Bull, Alonso back on the podium, Ferrari and Mercedes lurking, an American-style show, and a race without retirements. That’s a summary of the F1 weekend in Miami.
A weekend that left F1 fans unsatisfied after a relatively calm race on Sunday with no retirements (a first since the Turkish GP 2021), no safety car, and no red or yellow flags deployed. Some battles in the midfield provided some entertainment. But the general sentiment among fans was that the Miami GP was boring. No real fight for the lead, drivers stuck in DRS trains, and no excitement.
Damon Hill, the Formula 1 world champion in 1996, however, does not share the same opinion as the fans and has questioned this. He expressed himself on Twitter during the race: (en) Some people don’t appreciate this race. That tells me they don’t understand Formula 1. It’s about two guys fighting to become world champion. It’s decided by a few seconds. And Max needs to have a perfect pit stop.
The former Williams driver even found this race tense tactically. He even got excited about the spectacle offered during the race: I really like it. The cars look great on this track. There are also overtakings.
