Alonso explains his surprising radio message
The radio message regarding the strategy of the Spaniard at the beginning of the Miami Grand Prix has been confirmed to be a confusion.

Fernando Alonso revealed that his strange radio call regarding the strategy during the Miami Grand Prix made his Aston Martin team laugh. The two-time Formula 1 world champion was trailing Sergio Pérez, who was the race leader at the beginning of the event, when he seemed to be having trouble with his medium tires.
Alonso contacted his team through the radio to request a modification in his strategy to “Plan A minus 12”, which meant he wanted to pit 12 laps earlier than originally planned. However, instead of that, the Spanish driver was the last one to switch to hard tires and finished in third place, behind the Red Bull duo led by Max Verstappen.
Asked about the authenticity of his request for “minus 12”, Alonso said: « No, I had a plan A and a plan B and I mixed them up, minus 12 was not what I meant. I apologized just a few seconds later, they understood because they were laughing. It was not possible to achieve minus 12 since we had already passed that round. »
This little confusion didn’t have an impact on the result of the Spanish veteran. Thanks to his fourth podium of the season, Alonso is comfortably sitting in third place in the world championship with 75 points.
