The premier category is about to compete in the first of the six Grand Prix weekends with a sprint race scheduled for this season.

If the Scuderia Ferrari director, Frédéric Vasseur, believed that all teams were in agreement to change the racing format, according to an article titled “Selon Frédéric Vasseur, toutes les équipes sont d’accord pour changer le format des courses sprint,” his counterpart at Aston Martin, Mike Krack, however, believes that F1 must be careful not to compromise the essence of the sport.

The F1 must evolve, in general, but it must also preserve its DNA, warns the Luxembourger.

There have been very constructive discussions on how to achieve it, as you must understand the interests of all stakeholders, which we do, but we also have a very tight schedule, with regulations, tire availability, engine mileage, and everything else.

All these points must be taken into account and we must try to find a reasonable compromise, and perhaps at some point, we also need to set aside the interests of one team and have a broader perspective.

As a reminder, several changes are expected in Baku, particularly the addition of a second qualifying session, replacing Free Practice 2, to create a separation between the Saturday Sprint and the Sunday Grand Prix.

This would mean that teams would only have one free practice session on Friday morning, before moving on to the qualifying session for the Sunday race. The second qualifying session, which would determine the starting grid for the Sprint race, would take place on Saturday, before the Sunday race.
