Many changes in the rankings after the chaos of the Australian Grand Prix
The reigning world champion Max Verstappen is pulling away even further from his rivals at the end of this race in Melbourne.

After The drivers and constructors standings. One thing that remains unchanged is the top of the leaderboard: following his victory, Max Verstappen now has a comfortable 15-point lead over his pursuer and teammate, Sergio Pérez. However, Fernando Alonso is closing in on Perez, trailing by only 9 points after his latest podium.”
But behind, Lewis Hamilton is mounting a comeback thanks to his second-place finish, now only 7 points behind the Aston Martin driver, while he was previously tied with Carlos Sainz. The Ferrari driver, on the other hand, lost everything with his 5-second penalty after his clash with Alonso. He drops to fifth position, 18 points behind the Briton. It’s also a bad move for George Russell, who loses a position to Lance Stroll. And let’s not forget Charles Leclerc, who also loses another position (9th) in the standings after his DNF in the third turn.
The happy winners of the unlikely events in this race are none other than McLaren, and yet it was far from being a sure thing. Following Sainz’s penalty and the multiple crashes after the second red flag, both Norris and Piastri finished in the points for the first time this season, with the Brit securing 8th place ahead of the Monegasque. Nico Hülkenberg, Guanyu Zhou, and Yuki Tsunoda also earn their first points of 2023.
On the constructors’ side, Red Bull consolidates its lead, now 58 points ahead of Aston Martin. Mercedes comes out on the losing end due to Russell’s DNF, finding itself 9 points behind the British team, whereas they were previously tied. McLaren is the big winner among constructors, moving from the last place to 5th, thanks to the performances of its drivers who were able to take advantage of retirements, notably the double DNF at Alpine (6th). Scuderia Ferrari remains in fourth place, but now trails Mercedes by 30 points, with Sainz and Leclerc outside of the points…
