The restructuring continues at McLaren. After the announcement of the restructuring of its technical department last week, with the departure of James Key and the arrival of David Sanchez, McLaren continues to hire and focuses on the aerodynamics department, with the arrival of Mariano Alperin next season from Aston Martin.

Last week, following the announcement of its restructuring, CEO Zak Brown stated that the team needed a renewal in order to continue progressing: “Our technical development hasn’t progressed at a fast enough pace to match our ambition of returning to the front of the grid,” regrets Zak Brown. “I am glad that, after conducting a thorough review with Andrea, we are now able to implement the necessary restructuring to turn things around.” In order to meet its goals, McLaren has recruited top engineers from leading teams. After David Sanchez from Ferrari, it is now the turn of Mariano Alperin to be called upon by the British team.

The Argentine is not unfamiliar to F1. He was responsible for aerodynamics at Honda between 2006 and 2007, and then at Sauber from 2008 to 2019. Currently in charge of aerodynamic performance and analysis at Aston Martin, he is one of the main contributors to the team’s current success in the early part of the season. According to our colleagues at Motorsport, 15 people have reportedly agreed to join McLaren to strengthen the aerodynamics department. Zak Brown is confident and hopes to reach new heights with his new team: « These strategic changes ensure the team’s long-term success and are necessary to see McLaren return to victory. We now have everything in place with our personnel and infrastructure, and I am determined to see McLaren return to where we should be », declares the Briton.
