Max Verstappen impressed by George Russell
Among his 19 competitors, Max Verstappen admires George Russell's talent and sees in him a potential champion.
At the start of the season, Red Bull seems to be in a league of their own. Max Verstappen has already dominated the 2022 championship and continues to impress, as he finished the first race of the season far ahead of the rest of the grid.
If Verstappen’s main competitors are Charles Leclerc or Lewis Hamilton, the Dutchman, however, is wary of another Mercedes driver who goes by the name of George Russell.
George is part of the generation who grew up with Lando, Charles, and me. I raced against George a bit in karting, although he is one year younger. We immediately saw that he was good, reveals Verstappen in an interview for the Daily Mail.
According to him, the young British driver is gifted with natural talent and he sees in him immense potential. Even though they don’t know each other very well, he is convinced that Russell has all the chances to fight for becoming a world champion.
« It was natural for him – he didn’t need a lot of tricks to be fast. He could go straight ahead and fight at the front. He has the potential to become a world champion. »
George Russell had an outstanding season in 2022 and was rewarded when he secured his first victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix. He hopes to do even better this year and aims for the championship title if his Mercedes allows it, although it’s not guaranteed at the moment.
