Since its return in 2014, the Spielberg circuit has continuously provided fans with memorable moments like the intense duel between Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen in 2019, Lando Norris’s surprising podium finish in 2020, or the fire that Carlos Sainz’s car endured last season. It is to continue producing such memorable moments that Formula 1 has announced the extension of its contract with the Austrian circuit until 2027.

For your information, the Austrian Grand Prix first hosted the F1 in 1964. It was then on the calendar from 1970 to 1987, and then from 1997 to 2003.

After a long absence and some renovations, it has been back since 2014. Moreover, the latest edition, won by Charles Leclerc, reflects the growing enthusiasm for Formula 1 as it took place in a sold-out venue. In 2023, the famous Red Bull Ring circuit will celebrate its 10th anniversary since its return.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, welcomed the extension of this contract: « The Austrian Grand Prix combines the perfect mix of a challenging circuit, high-speed racing, and a beautiful location for our fans. Therefore, I am delighted that we will be returning to the Red Bull Ring at least until 2027 as part of this new agreement. »

He also wanted to pay tribute to Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away a few months ago. The co-founder of Red Bull had purchased the Spielberg circuit in 2005, despite the fact that it had been abandoned for several years. (e) I wanted to pay tribute to Dietrich Mateschitz who, thanks to his passion, love, and vision for Formula 1, made this event prosper, contributing to the enthusiasm that our sport generates not only in Austria but also around the world.

« We are proud of the special partnership we have with Formula 1, and we are absolutely thrilled to welcome the top class of motorsport to the Red Bull Ring for four more years. By signing this contract extension, Formula 1 has made a strong commitment to Austria, Styria, and the Murtal region,” added Erich Wolf, CEO of Projekt Spielberg GmbH & Co KG.

Often carried by the orange tide present on the Spielberg circuit, Max Verstappen is the driver who has been most successful at Spielberg. On the grounds of his team, Red Bull Racing, the Dutch driver has walked away with the trophy of victory on 4 occasions. However, it is Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton who have scored the most pole positions there, with 3 each.
