It is a symbolic act carried out by Mercedes. This Saturday, the Brackley team spoke out about their current difficult situation through their Twitter account, directly addressing their fans. A letter from the eight-time world champions without beating around the bush.

Feeling the pain of fans

In its lengthy statement published this Saturday, Mercedes reacts to a challenging Bahrain Grand Prix, both for the team and its supporters. It expresses feeling their pain: “Bahrain hurt. […] We know it has hurt you, and we feel the same pain.” As the team considers a complete overhaul of its W14, Mercedes aims to reassure by answering the question: “What can we do about it?”

First of all, we will not panic and will not make any instinctive reactions […] We already have developments in preparation for the upcoming races and there will be more to come, while specifying that there is no miracle solution in F1.

A call for fan support

In continuation of its open letter, Mercedes makes a direct appeal for support to its fans: “We will ask each and every one of you to propel us to the front,” declares Mercedes. The German team calls upon the entire F1 community at all levels: “We want our community to be a safe space full of debates, whether they are members of the team, Mercedes fans or rival fans,” emphasizes the German team. However, this open letter from Mercedes may suggest that the team does not prioritize the conquest of world titles. Instead, they see this season as a transition to approach 2024 under the best conditions. This position is similar to what Ferrari applied, bypassing 2020 and 2021 for 2022.
