Stefano Domenicali asserts that F1 “will never be electric”
If Formula 1 promises to reduce its carbon footprint, Stefano Domenicali asserts that it will never be electric.

On February 14th, the European Parliament approved an agreement signed by European member states last year. It states that no new gasoline or diesel cars will be allowed to be sold as of 2035 and also requires that new cars emit 55% less in 2030 compared to 2021.
This decision is far from delighting Stefano Domenicali, president of Formula 1, who expressed his views on the subject in an interview for the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore. He accuses politicians of setting surreal objectives and being too utopian with regards to electric cars. While Formula 1 is pursuing its efforts towards carbon neutrality, which it aims to achieve by 2030, its president firmly rejects the idea of it becoming completely electric.
« It is possible to achieve zero emissions without modifying the engines or disposing of existing cars,” he explains.
In order to reduce emissions, Formula 1 and the teams are already working on a new zero-emission fuel that, according to Domenicali, could also be used by airplanes and boats.
