These manufacturers will provide next-generation engines as defined by the regulation that will come into effect in 2026. These future engines increase the proportion of electricity in the power transmitted to the wheels and will notably simplify the overly complex operation of the current powertrain (See our wiki on the current operation of engines).

Four of the six engine manufacturers on this list for 2026 are already present on the current grid, namely Renault/Alpine, Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes. Honda will separate from Red Bull and Audi will make its debut in F1.

The official list of engine manufacturers who have requested to participate in the 2026 season is:

– Alpine Racing

– Audi

– Ferrari S.p.A.

– Honda Racing Corporation

– Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains Ltd.

– Red Bull Ford

Red Bull now manufactures its own engines, but the team is still supported by Honda until 2025. After that, their agreement with Ford will come into effect, and Honda will have to find another ally to continue in the competition. Ferrari supplies Haas and Alfa Romeo, while Mercedes equips McLaren, Williams, and Aston Martin. Alpine only powers its two cars. Finally, Audi will be linked to Sauber.

It can also be noted that Renault will no longer be the official engine supplier in F1 in 2026, as Alpine Racing will now be taking over the responsibility of supplying F1 engines in 2026.

In a statement, the president of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, expressed his gratitude for the trust that the six manufacturers have placed in Formula 1. The confirmation that there will be six powertrain manufacturers competing in Formula 1 from 2026 is a testament to the strength of the championship and the robust technical regulations that have been carefully created by the FIA in close collaboration with Formula 1 and the powertrain manufacturers. The power unit is at the forefront of technological innovation, making the future of Formula 1 more sustainable while maintaining spectacular races. I am grateful for the trust shown by major global car manufacturers through their commitment to Formula 1.

With Red Bull having signed a partnership with Ford, Honda now finds itself in a state of uncertainty. It is therefore not at all certain that the Japanese engine manufacturer will continue its registration for 2026.

Porsche, although a partnership with Red Bull was considered, did not apply.
