The Lotus 79, championed by Mario Andretti, is for sale
One of the most successful Formula 1 cars in F1, world champion in 1978 with Mario Andretti, is up for auction and could reach nearly 10 million dollars.

The end of the 2023 season will see the auction of a world championship-winning race car that also shaped the following years in Formula 1.
The 79/4 was powered by a Ford-Cosworth engine, designed by Geoff Aldridge and Martin Ogilvie. And out of the six victories that Mario Andretti achieved to win the championship in 1978, two were obtained with chassis number four: the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort and the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. It was on the latter race that the driver and the car secured the driver’s and constructors’ titles.
The last Lotus to have won a Formula 1 championship will be put up for auction by Bonhams during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with an estimated sale price between 6.5 and 9.5 million dollars.
