Lance Stroll believes Aston Martin has transformed in two years

Lance Stroll "does not think" that the Aston Martin team back when it was Racing Point would have been able to react as it did last year to get out of "this rut".

Aston Martin was among the teams that struggled the most to navigate the new regulations, particularly due to a strong ground effect known as “porpoising”. Without scoring a single point in the first three races of the season and ending up last in the team standings, Lance Stroll highlighted the English team’s ability to improve and climb up to seventh place in the constructors’ championship by the end of the season.

« I think the team has evolved a lot,” says Lance Stroll.

« At the factory, given the way things are done and the way the car is developed, I think that two years ago, we would have had much more difficulty getting out of the ditch we were in at the beginning of the year. »

« Now, big changes have been made. We had a completely different car in Barcelona, then there were developments. All of a sudden, we found ourselves in much better positions than before in certain races. Two years ago, I don’t think we would have been able to get out of this gap like this. In that respect, I think we have made enormous progress. »

It’s the whole team’s approach: we are much closer than before. I think the integration is much better than before. And I think that at the factory, all the professionalism, communication, and the way everything is done have clearly improved since the Racing Point era.

After Sebastian Vettel’s retirement last year, the one who will be partnered with Fernando Alonso in 2023 highlights the importance of consistently displaying performance throughout the calendar.

« I think that we still experience weekends where we aren’t quite sure why we’re not as competitive as other weekends. We have an idea, but we’re not 100% certain. I think that in the future, that should be the goal – to be competitive more often and on a variety of circuits: high efficiency, low downforce, high downforce. I imagine that’s the priority. But when I see where we were at the beginning of the year, I think we’ve taken a big step in the right direction. »
