Gerhard Berger will not return to Formula 1 with Audi
After advanced discussions that could have led to his return to Formula 1 with the manufacturer with the rings, Gerhard Berger will not be involved in Audi's arrival in the premier category in 2026.

The former Formula 1 driver, who has won multiple Grand Prix races, had a second career full of responsibilities with the management of the DTM championship and the Toro Rosso team, for example.
But today, the Austrian businessman no longer has the same priorities and ultimately did not wish to get involved in such a significant and time-consuming project as the arrival of Audi in Formula 1 for the 2026 season.
A new stage of life.
Following in the footsteps of many sportsmen and athletes who wish to enjoy their life without constraints after years spent at the highest level of their discipline, Gerhard Berger wants to enjoy his family and children without having to upheave his life.
This is the main reason why we will not find this iconic driver from the 1980s and 1990s in the Audi project that has already started a few months ago.
“I want to take my six-year-old son to his first go-kart races and my nine-year-old daughter horseback riding. I want to have more time for them. There have been several requests, all very interesting, but as I said, they didn’t fit into my life schedule,” the former Austrian Formula 1 driver assured in an interview for Speedweek.
« There were considerations, but then I would have had to reorganize my life differently. Young children play an important role. »
