Alex Palou, the reserve driver for McLaren for the 2023 season, would like to see an increase in the points awarded for the Indycar championship, which is one of the major competitions in the world of motor racing. He obtained his super license with his title in Indycar in 2021, but it would be necessary for the required points for the super license to be higher in order to allow promising drivers from this championship to have a chance at a seat in Formula 1.

“To be honest, I think IndyCar is such a difficult competition. I invite everyone to closely follow the IndyCar drivers and the IndyCar championship to realize how tight the race is, to see if we deserve more points or not,” the Ganassi Racing driver stated on the F1 Nation podcast.

« It’s a professional series, it’s not a junior series. I’m not saying that we should have priority over other series, but perhaps we should have a little more importance.

» States the 2021 Indycar champion on the F1 Nation podcast.

A raw talent

Colton Herta made a mark on the world of Indycar with sublime battles on track and victories in hellish conditions against legends of the sport. His failure to secure a seat for the 2023 Formula 1 season caused quite a stir. Alex Palou wishes for an increase in points awarded for the super license to prevent such a situation from happening again in the future.

« He won because he is fast. I think he could be a very good Formula 1 driver, and there were several Formula 1 teams that were ready to give him a chance, and he is no longer in the F1 paddock as a driver because of these points.
» The Spanish driver assures on the F1 Nation podcast.
