Max Verstappen’s superlicence in 2023 will be the most expensive in history
In 2023, Max Verstappen will have to pay a record amount to compete in the championship. However, his team is expected to settle the bill for his Dutch driver.

In Formula 1, a super license is required to compete in the World Championship. Calculated partly based on the points earned by each driver in the previous season, its cost can quickly increase in case of strong dominance. This was precisely the case for Max Verstappen in 2022.
With 454 points scored, the amount of the Dutch driver’s super license is set at €963,800, which represents a record in the history of the sport. In comparison, Charles Leclerc will have to pay the sum of €650,900, and Lewis Hamilton a little over €500,000.
Asked to react to this record amount, Red Bull’s sports advisor, Helmut Marko, expressed his surprise and clarified a major point of his driver’s contract: “I hadn’t realized how high the amount we owed to the FIA was. As far as I know, Max’s contract stipulates that we have to pay his superlicense.”
For Red Bull, these €963,800 will be added to the 6 million dollars in registration fees that the Austrian team will have to pay, as well as the $7 million fine imposed for non-compliance with budget caps in 2021.
Sebastian Vettel also wanted to give his opinion: “It’s absurd. I don’t know how common it is in other sports. There are always more and more races but nobody talks about it.”
Even though he is a brand new retiree, the former Aston Martin driver is still eager to participate in debates about the current events in F1.
