McLaren achieved the fastest pit stop of the season in Mexico
During the Mexican Grand Prix, the British team managed to perform a pit stop in less than two seconds. A first this season.

McLaren can leave Mexico with a smile. In addition to having both of its drivers in the Top 10 and closing the gap to Alpine by seven points in the championship, the Woking team was the first this season to complete a pit stop in under two seconds.
Until now, the fastest pit stop had been made by Red Bull on Sergio Pérez’s car during the Dutch Grand Prix last September. The mechanics from the Austrian team managed to complete the stop in 2.09 seconds.
In Mexico, for Daniel Ricciardo’s only pit stop on the 44th lap, McLaren improved their record with a pit stop time of 1.98 seconds to switch the Australian’s medium tires to soft ones. A remarkable performance that further enhances the native of Perth’s impressive seventh-place finish.
As a reminder, starting from this season, 18-inch tires have been introduced instead of 13-inch tires. Heavier and bulkier, these tires make the wheels more difficult to handle for mechanics. Consequently, pit stops tended to slow down since the beginning of the year.
