Hamilton close to a contract extension with Mercedes
7 world championship titles, 103 pole positions... Lewis Hamilton has been dominating the discipline in recent seasons, gradually erasing the historical records. Even though 2022 falls below his usual performances, Hamilton remains interested in Formula 1. During an interview with the BBC, the Mercedes driver affirmed his intentions to extend his contract.

After winning 7 world championship titles, the controversial 2021 season and the underperforming 2022 season, one could question Lewis Hamilton’s future in Formula 1.
« I want to keep on running. These words are in line with the mindset displayed by Lewis Hamilton since the beginning of the season. Hindered by a complicated car to exploit and suffering from a severe lack of top speed, we have witnessed surreal scenes for number 44, dominated by his teammate, even struggling to qualify in Q3 at times. This new regulation has pushed Hamilton to his limits and he continues to fight despite a car that still cannot fight for victories after 19 races already completed in 2022.
A contract that expires in 2023 with Mercedes.
His contract will expire at the end of the 2023 season with Mercedes, and so far the team has not announced anything regarding the future of their number one driver. However, there is little doubt that the collaboration between the British driver and the German team will continue. Lewis Hamilton stated, “We will reach another agreement. We will sit down and discuss it over the next two months, I would say.”
The passion for piloting still drives the Mercedes driver who still has a thirst for success.
I love what I do. I have been doing it for 30 years and I don’t think I should stop. I am always thinking about winning. I want to do better, even more.
Stay with Mercedes
Regarding the team he wants to ride for, he doesn’t want to leave the team that propelled him to the top of the sport.
« My goal is to continue driving with Mercedes. I have been with Mercedes since I was 13 years old. And it truly is my family. The Mercedes-Benz company has been with me through thick and thin. » explains Hamilton. Mercedes, currently going through a tough period, aspires to come back to the forefront next season.
I truly believe in this brand. I believe in the people within the organization. And I want to be the best teammate I can be for them, because I believe we can make the brand even better, more accessible, stronger than it already is, and I believe I can be an integral part of it.
These statements are encouraging and leave no doubt about Lewis Hamilton’s determination to make his mark on Formula 1 history. By seeking new victories and another world championship title, he aims to become the driver with the greatest achievements in the sport.
